PROJECT OVERVIEW
“Preston” is a grounded, character-driven short film exploring identity, environment, and emotional adjustment through the lens of a young man navigating a new world in Brooklyn.
We are seeking naturalistic performers with strong presence, subtle emotional depth, and authenticity.

ROLES
PRESTON (Lead)Age: 13–20 (must convincingly portray a teen)Clean-cut, polished, composed. Observant and slightly reserved.Protagonist. Comes from a structured, possibly privileged background and is adjusting to a louder, unfamiliar environment. Processes everything internally, often feeling like an outsider.Emotional arc moves from disorientation to observation to a subtle sense of connection.
LAMAR (Lead)Age: 14–20 (must convincingly portray a teen)Effortless Brooklyn energy. Confident, witty, naturally charismatic.Cousin and guide into the neighborhood. Energetic, social, and instinctive. Street-aware with emotional depth beneath the surface. Brings humor and grounding while quietly carrying his own vulnerability.
AUNT MICHELLE (Supporting)Age: 30-40
Black / African American woman, 30s-40s. Warm, sharp, and no-nonsense with a natural comedic edge. She is the kind of woman who can correct you, feed you, roast you, and love on you all in the same breath. Stylish and put together, but not trying too hard. She runs her home with structure, humor, and authority. Quick-witted, expressive, and emotionally grounded, Aunt Michele brings both levity and stability to the story. She loves hard, speaks plainly, and has the kind of presence that makes everyone listen when she enters the room.
GRANDPA WILLIE (Supporting)Age: 60–70
Black / African American man, 60s-70s. Funny, old-school, successful, and full of personality. Grandpa Willie has lived a full life, made his own money, and carries himself like a man who has earned the right to say whatever is on his mind. He is sharp, opinionated, animated, and always ready with a joke, a roast, or some unsolicited wisdom from “back in the day.”
He still smokes his weed, talks slick from across the room, and in his mind, he is very much still a ladies’ man charming, flirtatious, and convinced he has not lost a step. He may be messy, loud, and hilarious, but there is also pride, confidence, and real life experience behind him.
Underneath the humor, flirting, and one-liners, Grandpa Willie is loving, protective, and deeply rooted in family. He brings warmth, chaos, comedy, and heart to the household. Looking for an actor with strong comedic timing, natural charisma, expressive delivery, and the ability to make even a simple line feel unforgettable.
